Taking Along Luxuries on your Travels
Packing light on your travels is often a great way to save yourself the trouble of dealing with overweight luggage charges at airports, back problems from lugging your suitcases around hotel lobbies and up staircases, and certainly from having to scrounge through your bag just to find the bathing suit you buried at the bottom. Still, there are downsides to under-packing, namely that you might leave items that you’d really enjoy having along with you. So if you’re planning a relaxing trip soon and want to bring along some luxurious essentials from your home life, consider only bringing three large items you want to bring but normally wouldn’t. That way, you’re still saving most of your luggage space for the essentials, but don’t have to give up things that make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Below, we’ll provide three suggestions on what items can really make a trip even better.
Bath Robes
This day and age, you’re lucky if the place you’re staying at even puts two clean towels in your room before your stay begins, and oftentimes you have to head down to the front desk to get enough towels for your needs. So expecting to find a bath robe in a hotel room may be setting yourself up for disappointment. And even if the hotel does provide robes, they’re often not as nice as you’d expect. Instead, consider bringing a luxury bath robe from home. Softer, more elegantly designed, and frankly more personal, you’ll have something comfortable to relax in when you don’t want to get changed. And hey, since it is your vacation, don’t you deserve a little bit of luxury?
Formalwear
Many people leave for their vacations not wanting to get dressed up, preferring instead to lounge around in sweatpants in shorts without any expectations to change. That may be your initial thought, but oftentimes during vacation after a few days of relaxing you eventually want to get dolled up and hit the town. It can be difficult to do that without a dress or suit, so even though you may not bring a dozen options along, one formal outfit will do just fine. If you don’t end up using it, there’s nothing to lose, but if you find a need for it, you’ll be glad you brought it. If you can’t fit it, put it in your suitcase anyway and take out some other essentials. After all, it’s much cheaper to replace flip flops and board shorts once you arrive than it is to buy a brand new classy dress or suit.
Something Special
This last category isn’t anything specific, and that’s for a reason. If there’s something in your home that really makes your day every day, why should you feel obligated to leave it behind on your vacation? Your trip is designed to make you feel good, so if there is something that you enjoy and enjoy often, pack it and don’t worry about the details until later.

I agree, packing lights on your travel is always a great idea. But it didn’t work out for some people. DH always wanted to pack lights during our trips but it’s very hard when you have 2 kids. We always end up with two big luggage, one for us and one for the kids
